Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion 1 oz Silver 2026
Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion is a silver collector coin that opens the new Megafauna series, dedicated to the extinct giants of the Ice Age. The 2026 issue features the Cave Lion, one of the most powerful predators of the prehistoric world, which inhabited vast areas of Europe and Asia thousands of years ago. The coin was minted from 1 ounce of 999.9 fine silver and combines raw natural symbolism with the modern minting artistry of the Germania Mint.
Kinga Sabatowicz's design is an artistic interpretation of strength, instinct, and the uncompromising laws of primeval nature. The Megafauna series is conceived as a stylistically coherent collection, where successive species are linked by common graphic motifs. The coin was issued for the Republic of Liberia as legal tender with a face value of 20 Dollars.
The coin has a diameter of 38.61 mm and was minted in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality. The mintage is 5,000 copies, making it attractive for collectors of thematic series as well as enthusiasts of modern numismatics. Each coin comes in a protective capsule along with a Certificate of Authenticity (COA).
The obverse depicts the Cave Lion in its natural, primeval environment. The predator's tense posture, exposed fangs, and claws are captured in the moment just before a pounce, against a backdrop of mountains and ancient forests, emphasizing the drama and raw power of the Ice Age.
The reverse features the characteristic motif of the Megafauna series: the skull of the Cave Lion and its paw print, surrounded by traces of other species that will appear in future issues. The composition is complemented by the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, the face value 20 DOLLARS, and the mint mark of the Germania Mint.
