About the Aztec Calendar

The Aztec Calendar, also known as the Stone of the Sun, is a monumental basalt sculpture from around 1479 that embodies the advanced astronomical and cosmological knowledge of the ancient Aztecs. The original sculpture was discovered in 1790 and is currently on display at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.

The calendar represents a temporal spiral – five epochs, the last of which, known as the Fifth Sun, is the age in which the Aztecs lived. At its center is a depiction of the sun god Tonatiuh, surrounded by concentric circles representing the twenty days of the Aztec month, eighteen months of the year, and five fate days. This complex astronomical depiction reflects a deep understanding of solar, lunar, and earthly cycles, which were necessary for planning cultivation times and religious ceremonies.

Why Titanium as an Investment?

Unlike traditional precious metals, the value of titanium primarily derives from the growing demand in the aerospace, defense, medical, and automotive industries, where its exceptional properties – the combination of lightness with increased strength – make it irreplaceable.

The titanium market is experiencing stable growth of approximately 6 percent per year until 2033, driven by investments in advanced technologies and sustainable development. This makes titanium an interesting alternative metal investment.

Design

Obverse: Depicts the sun god Tonatiuh in the center, surrounded by an intertwined serpent depiction, the sign Xiuhcoatl – the fire serpent – which in Aztec mythology represents the cyclical nature of time and transformation. Around this central scene extends a rich mosaic of symbols depicting cosmic hierarchy and the division of time: twenty day signs, four previous suns (epochs), and four cardinal directions.

Reverse: Features the head of Cuauhtémoc, the last Aztec ruler, with traditional magnificent feather headdress and rich, glistening jewelry. Cuauhtémoc, nephew of Emperor Moctezuma II, embodies unyielding resistance and heroism. In 1521, during the Siege of Tenochtitlan, he led the defense of the city for ninety-three days and became a symbol of indomitable spirit and national dignity. Below the portrait are details on weight, fineness, and the issue year 2026.
